Improving the earthquake resilience of Indonesia’s new capital city
The goal of the project is to help improve the earthquake resilience of Indonesia’s new capital city, the construction of which will take place over the next decade or so in east Kalimantan. The building of a new city requires accurate information on the likely level of ground shaking produced by earthquakes in order to erect suitably resilient structures. For this to happen, it is essential to deploy a dense array of seismometers that will enable a more complete earthquake catalogue to be assembled, identify previously undiscovered faults, and image the shallow structure beneath the proposed site.
